Enjoy great days out in Northumberland, from exploring the award-winning 30 miles of beautiful beaches and historic castles to enjoying water sports such as surfing, kayaking and diving to a more relaxing putt on one of the many popular Northumberland golf courses.
Northumberland is home to more castles than any other county in the UK with some of the most impressive dotted along this stretch of heritage coastline, including the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle close to the fishing village of Craster. There is also the magnificent Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island and Warkworth Castle.
During your stay on the Northumberland Coast, visit the remote Holy Island of Lindisfarne, (the island is cut off twice a day by the sea – check before you go!). Enjoy the day, exploring the visitor centre and learn about the Lindisfarne Gospels, sample the Lindisfarne Mead, stroll around the historic Lindisfarne Priory, follow the path up to the Lindisfarne Castle and marvel at the fantastic coastal views from inside. Visit St Cuthbert’s Cross on the rocky shore and watch the seals playing in the nearby water where the colourful fishing boats gently rock in the water– a wonderful sight not to be missed.
There are also two other popular islands to visit – the Farne Islands and Coquet Island. Both are protected nature reserves and home to many types of seabirds including Puffins, Kittiwakes and Terns. Seals colonies are also plentiful and hundreds of seals and pups can be seen basking on the shore or in the waters around the rocks. Various boat trips to the Farne Islands are available throughout the year from the popular seaside village of Seahouses and Coquet Island can be visited, (although no landing is allowed), from the harbour at Amble. Dolphins and Whales are increasingly seen off the Northumberland Coast too!
Wherever you decide to stay, you can be assured of a warm Northumbrian welcome and a fun-filled holiday with memories to treasure in this award-winning and much-loved holiday location.
